 Thank you for your interest in becoming an American Heart Association Instructor. AHA prides itself in offering the finest training with high quality control standards. >>>Action CPR is an authorized American Heart Association Training Center offering community courses and BLS/Heartsaver Instructor training. We strictly follow AHA guidelines and use of training materials as outlined by AHA. Use of these materials in courses does not represent course sponsorship by the AHA. Fees charged for the instructor course or other courses are not revenue generated for the Association.  Certain policies described below are in addition to AHA guidelines to insure high quality Instructors. 

There are two levels of Instructors, community level or HEARTSAVER and  professional level or BLS for Healthcare Provider. The BLS instructor is allowed to teach Heartsaver if they have completed training and have the required materials.  The Core Instructor Course is a tool designed to provide a foundation for teaching. The CIC is a mandatory first step prior to becoming an AHA Instructor. The workbook and CD-ROM is done at home and takes about 10 hours. The completed workbook is to be brought to the classroom on the day/s of the Instructor Course/s. Candidates are not admitted to class without the completed CIC workbook.   The Instructor Candidate will need to purchase the following materials from one of the three AHA approved distributors prior to the course. Each distributor charges the same for the materials but offer different incentives and shipping rates. The distributors are:

• Heartsaver Instructor Course $200 plus Instructor Materials listed below approximately $1000, total about $1200
• BLS Instructor Course $200 plus Instructor Materials listed below approximately $1100, total about $1300.00y $1100.0 $1200, total ,  
• Both Instructor Courses $250, plus Instructor Materials listed below approximately total about $1500 to $1600

The following items don’t need to be purchased from the distributors but they have them available. The prices listed are approximate and shopping around is a good idea. These items must be brought to the Instructor Course. If you are with a group of Instructor Candidates from one company, you may share these items for the Instructor Course.

• Adult Manikins (maximum ratio 3:1 student to manikin, class size is limited to 9) $125.00 per manikin
• Infant Manikins (same recommendation as adult) $100.00 per manikin
• AED Trainer $159.00
• Pocket Mask $15.00
• Epi-Pen Trainer $5.00
• First Aid Training Pack $7.50

The following items are needed when courses are taught

• Epi-Pen Trainer 1 for each student reusable $5.00 (need at least six)
• First Aid Training Pack or equivalent 1 for each student $7.50 (need at least six)
• Pocket masks and mouthpieces 1 for each student reusable $40.00 (for about six sets)
• Textbooks 1 for each student $9.00 to $13.95
• Course Completion Cards $3.00

BLS for HEALTHCARE PROVIDER INSTRUCTOR COURSE MATERIALS

If you want to teach the Heartsaver level also the whole set of Heartsaver Instructor materials as described above must be purchased. All three days of training must be attended. Instructors must have all the required materials in order to turn in rosters and receive student cards for the discipline they are teaching.

Two weeks prior to class Instructor candidates must come in to pay for the Instructor course and fill out application. They must also show a receipt or proof of possession of the materials needed for class.

Prior to class Instructor Candidates must complete CIC workbooks and bring them day one.

Day 1   8am 12pm Heartsaver provider class, for Heartsaver Instructor Candidates and those BLS Instructor Candidates that wish to teach the Heartsaver level classes

Lunch

1pm 5pm BLS for Healthcare Provider class for BLS Instructor candidates only

Day 2  8am 5pm Heartsaver First Aid CPR Instructor Class (breaks built into class time, 1 hour lunch around noon) BLS Instructor Candidates must attend this class if they wish to teach the Heartsaver level of classes.

Day 3  8am 5pm BLS Instructor Class (breaks built into class time, 1 hour lunch around noon) for BLS Instructor Candidates only
